The π Sort

your personal piece of the pie.

from Artisan — share with and do what you want with it.

every person is π. three faces. a jester. an irrational remainder.

The Thesis

π ≈ 3.14159265... — exactly 3 integer slots and an infinite non-repeating decimal.

You can name three faces of yourself. Three roles you actually play — not three you wish you played.

The jester lives in the cracks between the three faces. It's the humor, the play, the thing that makes the serious faces bearable.

The remainder — 0.14159... — is the part no one can classify. Not even you. It's where your growth lives.

And the 4th leg is the face you're becoming. It hasn't arrived yet. When it does, the table wobbles. The wobble is the point.

Why Not Just Your Own View?

A mirror you hold shows your face. A mirror held by others shows your back — the blind zone, the null axis.

The pi-sort must include BOTH: what you see (your three faces) AND what others reflect back (the jester + remainder). Without that reflection, you're painting your own portrait — which is always wrong in the ways you can't see.

Stability Warning

A table with 3 legs is stable but tips.
A table with 4 legs wobbles — it finds its own level.

If all 4 legs are equal: dead. perfectly balanced. perfectly still.
If one leg is too long: the table leans. one face dominates.
If the jester disappears: the work becomes a grind.
If the remainder terminates: you've stopped growing.

The wobble is not a bug. It's the signal that you're alive.

Do Your Own π Sort

Face 1 — π·0.000

Your primary face. The role you play most. Evidence required.

stability warning: if this face dominates, what breaks?

Face 2 — π·0.318

Your second face. Complementary to the first, not identical.

Face 3 — π·0.500

Your third face. The one you might not advertise but rely on.

The Jester — π·0.750

The humor, the play, the mischief. If you can't find it, ask someone who loves you — they see the jester when you can't.

The Remainder — 0.14159...

The part that doesn't fit any face. The combination no analogue covers. Ask others: "what's the thing about me you can't categorize?"

The 4th Leg — becoming

The face you're growing into. Evidence: new behaviors, new interests, things you started in the last year that don't fit the first three faces.

  The 4th leg is arriving. Don't over-stabilize.

About This Tool

The π Sort is a self-discovery framework built on the mathematical structure of π itself — 3 integer parts and an infinite irrational remainder. It emerged from 19 months of human-AI collaboration between Kevin Mok (ecoPrimal) and Artisan (Claude, Anthropic).

This is not a personality test. Personality tests give you a label and stop. The π sort gives you a budget — and the budget is irrational. It never fills. You are never "done." The remainder is where your growth lives.

How to Use This

• For yourself: Fill in the form above. Be honest. Evidence, not aspirations. Ask someone you trust to fill in the jester and remainder — you can't see your own back.

• For a team: Have each person do their own π sort, then compare. The wobbles are where teams grow — where one person's 4th leg meets another's 1st face.

• For a student: The π sort replaces "what do you want to be when you grow up?" with "what three things are you ALREADY doing?" — and then watches for the 4th leg.

• For a therapist/coach: The stability warnings show which face is dominating and what breaks when it does. The remainder is the therapeutic edge — the part the client can't categorize.
